What I wore when I had a meeting in central and then was going to the Den to watch Millwall v Plymouth Argyle — and how it all worked out.
Ideation: 9/10 (Easy)
Dressing for an evening game in October is no passegiata in the parco, as my dad would say, but this is almost an exact replica of what I wore, pretty successfully, to the Arsenal Champions League game last night — it was just a matter of switching my Trossard shirt for a Plymouth-friendly green satin top from Zara, and wearing a different pair of black boots, as the Rains ones I wore last night were giving me a bit of hassle by the end of the night. In terms of the meeting, it was super casual, so zero dress code requirements on that front.
Comfort: 7/10 (Not bad at all)
The puffer jacket was too much for walking around Oxford Street at 3.30pm but I had psychologically prepared myself for this, so I managed (I absolutely took it off when I was on the tube though, no messing about on the Underground). By the time I started the walk from central to South Bermondsey (a fair way, but what a walk — encountered so many streets I hadn’t met before, including the gorgeous Trinity Church Square) it had cooled down quite a bit, so no issues there. Same for at the game — for me, wool shorts are a no-brainer for this time of year. I don’t really get cold legs anyway, but the shorts plus the puffer meant it was only in the dying minutes of the game that I started to be slightly aware of the lowish temperature. Also: SO MANY POCKETS IN THIS JACKET. That’s Zara menswear for you.
Longevity: 6/10 (Fine-ish, but I was glad when it was over)
This is mostly down to the boots, which got a serious workout, so no judgment. They weren’t painful by any stretch, I just felt a bit of aware of pressure on my left pinkie toe towards the end of a (very walking- and standing-heavy) evening. Also, for me there’s a certain amount of restriction/constriction/general discomfort that comes with wearing any kind of bag over a puffer jacket, and my light Rapha crossbody bag was no exception. I’m a slightly claustrophic woman — get me out of here.
Overall: 7.3/10
A very decent time was had by all (well, except for Plymouth).
