Do Paris (like Rihanna) in 24 hours

Do Paris (like Rihanna) in 24 hours

With our new House recently opened in the City of Lights, what better time to take a deep dive into what’s going on in town? And best news of all, our team on the ground has done all the hard work for you. With a little help from Rihanna, of course.

Where to eat and drink

MoSuke by Mory Sacko
Dinner has always been a party for Mory Sacko. Raised by Malian parents in France, Sacko enjoyed evening meals that were big, noisy affairs, sharing platters of his mother’s West African cooking with his eight siblings. Fast forward to today, and he is one of France’s most talked-about chefs, with his new venture, MoSuke, having already earnt a Michelin star. It’s quickly become the toughest reservation in town to get, and Sacko’s blend of African, French and Japanese flavours has been described as changing the face of French cooking.

Maison Lautrec
This Pigalle-based favourite treads a line between bar and bistro, managing to excel at both. Featuring exclusively French produce, and vegetables and herbs grown in the restaurant’s own garden, the tapas-style menu puts the emphasis on freshness and quality, offering traditional cooking with Mediterranean or Asian touches. Round out your meal with a considered selection of cocktails and natural wines – and don’t be surprised if Lautrec’s cosy corners and moody lighting tempt you to stay late into the night.

Pink Mamma
Pink Mamma’s verdant indoor verandah – complete with a wall of windows, industrial lighting and charmingly lived-in cane furniture – is the stuff Instagram dreams are made of, but we suggest you put your phone down to focus on the food instead. Wood-fired pizzas feature perfectly burnt crusts that are pillowy enough to make a grown Neopolitan cry, and we can never say no to a tongue-in-cheek name (special mention goes out to ‘Hot me baby one more time’ and ‘Netflix and cheese’). When you’re finished, we suggest heading to the downstairs speakeasy, No Entry – provided the carb coma isn’t completely incapacitating, of course.

L’Avenue
Occupying prime position opposite Dior’s salon and Louis Vuitton headquarters on Avenue Montaigne, L’Avenue is a fashion week favourite: Rihanna was recently spotted there, and Jennifer Lawrence and Kim Kardashian like to pop in when they’re in town for the couture shows. But life isn’t all about the A-list – we still have to eat, after all. When you’ve had your fill of the ‘scene and be seen’-ness of it all, L’Avenue offers a menu of crowd pleasers, from tuna tartare and melt-in-your-mouth burrata to matchstick frites that are way too good to share.

Where to shop

L’Avenue Montaigne
It’s not a trip to Paris without a visit to L’Avenue Montaigne, the pristine and neoclassical shopping promenade that is home to luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Givenchy, and Saint Laurent. Queen RiRi and her beau, A$AP Rocky, were recently spotted leaving Dior while they were there for fashion week. After working up an appetite, head to L’Avenue (above) for lunch.

What to see and do

Thierry Mugler, Couturissime at The Musée des Arts Décoratifs'
Manfred Thierry Mugler’s death earlier this year caused major waves in the fashion world and beyond. Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, Jean Paul Gaultier, Beyoncé, Diane Ross and Kim Kardashian (for whom Mugler created the now-iconic ‘wet look’ Met Gala look) – among many others – all paid tribute to the boundary-shattering artist, who is credited with revolutionising the fashion and beauty industries during his career.

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs’ new exhibition, Thierry Mugler, Couturissime, retraces Mugler’s work, with everything from ready-to-wear and haute couture silhouettes to stage costumes, photographs, films and unpublished archives dating from 1973 to 2014 on display. A not-to-be-missed retrospective of a once-in-a-generation designer.

Cézanne, The Lights Of Provence and Kandinsky, The Odyssey Of Abstraction at Atelier des Lumières
An art centre and cultural space that has made a name for itself for its immersive experiences, the Atelier des Lumières currently has two new exhibitions on view, showcasing the work of post-impressionist painter, Paul Cézanne, and abstract artist and theorist, Wassily Kandinsky. Lose yourself in Cézanne’s journey of light and colour in Provence, and Kandinksy’s abstract, chromatic creations with floor-to-ceiling projections of the artists’ most iconic works, set to music.

IWD special: The Female Gaze by Iris Brey
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we welcome Franco-American film and TV series critic, Iris Brey, who specialises in questions of feminism and gender, and recently published The Female Gaze. In this talk, Brey invites us to question the hidden meaning of images, and defines the concept of the female gaze as a way of viewing women without objectification.

Places for this event can be booked here.
