Awards season picks: Kate Winslet in conversation with Dan Levy
Ahead of the Oscars, our Awards Season Picks video series highlights the writers, actors and directors who are expected to emerge triumphant in April. Third in the series is Kate Winslet.
Still very much working the awards circuit since her latest film premiered at Cannes last year, and with numerous festival nominations yet to be decided, Kate Winslet talks to Dan Levy about Ammonite, Francis Lee’s romantic drama that is loosely inspired by the life of British palaeontologist Mary Anning.
Set in the 1840s, the story focuses on an unlikely friendship-turned-relationship between two women of different class and personality, who are brought together to hunt for fossils along the English coastline. Starring Saoirse Ronan as the younger love interest, the film is about resisting conformity, daring to listen to intuition, and the undeniable power of connection.
Watch the conversation between Winslet and Emmy-winning showrunner Dan Levy, of Schitt’s Creek, as they discuss job enjoyment, embracing variety and incorporating wellness into everyday life. Their on-screen excitement is a joy to watch, and it’s clear the pair are mutual fans of each other’s work – in fact, after Levy name-dropped Winslet in an episode of Schitt’s Creek, Winslet revealed in an interview with Variety that she’s actually ‘obsessed with the show’, and would even consider starring in it.
